In San Mateo County, some local communities suffer from a high percentage of unemployment. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 12,000 jobless people live in Daly City, East Palo Alto, South San Francisco and Redwood City. Language skills and educational attainment appear to be among the biggest employment challenges for many job seekers overthere.
To tackle this issue, CALSO and JobTrain jointly created a unique venture - WISE SV - to leverage a galaxy of “for-profit for good” companies in the South Bay.
In our social enterprises, we provide the first rung on the job ladder for people with multiple barriers to employment through “Jump Jobs”. People formerly excluded from the workforce suddenly have access to livable wage jobs and career paths. They rebuild their self-esteem, learn in a safe environment where they can fail, try again and finally succeed.
With a positive and direct impact on more than 85% of our beneficiaries, we impact people’s lives on the long-term by helping them to reach their full potential and strengthen their communities.
